Someone in your corner at every step
Moving to the other side of the world to teach comes with paperwork, interviews and a lot of firsts. It helps to have someone in your corner who has done it before. Here's how we guide you through each step.
A free call
We talk about what you want from your time abroad, check that you're eligible, and answer your questions honestly.
Your TEFL
You'll need a 120-hour TEFL certificate to teach in Vietnam, and you can earn one through us before you leave. Already certified? You can use the one you have.
Your documents
We explain which documents you need, including your degree and background check, and how to get them legalized for Vietnam.
Your placement
We introduce you to a trusted partner school. They interview you, arrange your visa and help with your first accommodation.
Arrival week
You arrive with a group of other new teachers. Your partner school provides training before you start teaching, and we help you settle into life in Vietnam.
Ongoing support
Questions about school, housing or life in Vietnam? We're a message away for the length of your program.
A job that leaves room for everything else
Teaching in Vietnam lets you live abroad, not just pass through. You'll have a steady job during the week, and weekends and holidays to explore the country.
Weekdays in the classroom
You'll teach during the school day, Monday to Friday. Your evenings are your own.
Weekends to explore
Vietnam packs beaches, mountains and centuries-old towns into one country, and most are a short bus ride or flight from where you'll live.
Holidays to go further
School breaks, like the Lunar New Year (Tết) holiday in winter, are a perfect time to see more of Southeast Asia or Vietnam.
People who've done it
Your group, our team and past teachers are here when you need advice or company.
No teaching experience needed
Whether you've just graduated, want a change of career or simply want to live abroad, you can apply as long as you meet Vietnam's requirements for a work permit. We check these on your first call.
- A native English speaker with a passport from the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
- A bachelor's degree in any subject
- A clean criminal background check
- A 120-hour TEFL certificate, or the time to earn one before you go
Before you ask
Do I need teaching experience?
No. Most people who join have never taught before. You'll earn a TEFL certificate before you go, and your partner school provides training before you start teaching.
Where will I teach?
In Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, with one of our partner schools. We'll share the current options, along with realistic hours and pay, on your free call.
Is my job placement guaranteed?
Yes. Once you're accepted and your documents are ready, we'll place you with a partner school in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
What does it cost?
The program fee is $750, including a $250 deposit to secure your place. Joining the waitlist is free.
How do I get a TEFL certificate?
Through our TEFL partner. You'll take an accredited 120-hour course online before you leave, at a discounted rate for Roam and Teach participants. We'll share the details on your free call. Already certified? You can use the one you have.
Who runs Roam and Teach?
We're a small team of former English teachers in Vietnam. We started Roam and Teach because getting started on your own is confusing, and good advice is hard to find.
Be first to hear when spots open
We're preparing our first group for the 2027–28 school year. Leave your details and we'll email you when applications and free calls open. No payment, no commitment.
